You hear about eating healthy everywhere you turn these days. The trend is moving away from fad diets and the endless array of products designed to trick the pounds off your body. It is turning more and more toward clean eating that arms the body against disease and obesity. Yet, many people are still asking the big question: what is a healthy eating plan?

It is one thing to realize you need to eat healthy either for health or a weight problem (or both), but it is another thing entirely to truly understand what a healthy eating plan looks like.

For example, is frozen or canned fruit acceptable or do you need to go completely fresh? Is there really something special about organic produce that justifies the much higher price? Do you have to count calories or monitor your portions if you are eating all healthy foods?

Obviously, there is a lot of confusion when it comes to eating healthy. Let’s look at the basic components of a healthy diet to get a better idea of what you should be eating.

The base of any healthy diet is going to be a lot of vegetables and fruits. Your body will get a lot of its vitamins and minerals from these, as well as the all-important fiber. Fresh produce is best and organic is even better, but you can save considerable cost by using frozen fruits and vegetables that are not coated in sugar, syrup, or high fat sauces.Vegetable sources are tomatoes, red and green peppers, spinach, just to name a few. Carrots and other green and leafy vegetables are other excellent sources for your daily intake of nutrients. Brightly coloured fruits and vegetables are the best as these have the most vitamin, mineral and antioxidant content, including vitamins B and C. All fruit and vegetables are an important part of a healthy balanced diet. More details please

Lean meats and other protein foods like tofu and beans are also a big part of the healthy diet. You just don’t need as much meat as most people assume.

Carbohydrates should never be left out. Just go for 100% whole grains and limit it to smaller portions at each meal.

The last requirement is healthy fats. Go for olive oil sprays and controlled portions of nuts over fried foods or vegetable oils.

Basically, a healthy eating plan is one that is balanced with a variety of foods that are not heavily processed.
